2002 Community Survey

The October 2002 issue of Linden Words included a four-page community survey which was designed to solicit direction from the residents of Linden Woods regarding the future development of the community centre and the programmes offered.

The following activities currently not offered at the community centre were the most desired:
  • Wine tasting, dance classes, winter carnival, breakfast or skate with Santa, aerobics, youth/teen drop-in, swimming
  • 77.9% of the respondents had been in the community centre in the previous year; 0 respondents said it was too large;
  • 38.5% said it was too small, and 38.5% said it was just right
  • There were 17 ideas on how to change the physical structure but the idea with the largest number of respondents was adding a gym for basketball
  • 22.1%of the respondents said the activity areas surrounding the community centre were sufficient.
  • There were 34 ideas of other activities that could be added to the community centre grounds. The most popular idea with 9 responses was an indoor rink.
  • 44.2% would be interested in making a financial contribution to enhance the community centre while 43.3% said no.
  • 69.2% would not be interested in volunteering for a door-to-door canvass for funds to enhance the community centre.
  • 83.7% supported the idea of expanding the programmes and physical structure of the community centre (however, several said Yes for programmes but no for physical structure).
  • 55.8% are not willing to volunteer time within our community organizing/executing programmes or serving on the Board
  • 64.4% felt our community would be better served if our community operated independently of the Victoria community centre. 19.2% said they did not know.
There were many suggestions for changes to Linden Words and ideas for a web site. Complete survey results are available from Julie Bubnick
