Karate Information 2012
The instructor, Sensei John Selinger, is a sixth degree black belt with the Japan Karate Association (JKA). He has been practising karate with the JKA for more than 38 years, and teaching for over 33. As an internationally certified JKA Instructor, Examiner and Judge, he is one of an elite group in Canada. Some highlights of his competition history include being Manitoba, Western Canadian, and Canadian champion. He has also represented Canada in international team competition.
The JKA SKD Winnipeg dojo at LWCC is a member of JKA SKD Canada and the Japan Karate Association (JKA). The style of karate taught is JKA Shotokan karate.
Class ages are from 8 to 70 and are held on:
Saturdays (September to June)
- 10:00-11:00AM - Beginners * 11:00-12:00PM - General (yellow & up)
Mondays
- 6:45-7:30PM -- Beginners * 7:30-8:30PM -- General (yellow & up)
Wednesdays
- 7:15 – 8:15 p.m. - General (yellow & up, plus adult beginners) * 8:15 – 9:15 p.m. - Advanced
Exceptions will be considered by the instructor. Registrations are accepted at any time. With the new additions at LWCC fees for the karate program are under review.

"LITTLE NINJAS" program is currently full but please email us if you want to be on a waiting list.
- For kids age 5 - 7
- 12 weeks, September, 2012
- Mondays, 6:00 - 6:30 p.m.
- Fee approximately $ 50
The goal of the Little Ninjas program is to include the basic skills of karate in a fun-filled environment. Basic skills will include punching, kicking, blocking, stances and self-defense. In teaching the basic skills we will be working on focus, teamwork, control, balance, memory, discipline, fitness, respect, manners, following directions and co-ordination.
Program is developed by and Classes team-taught by senior black belts in Shotokan karate – a pediatrician (sports medicine), a former teacher, & a former nanny.
Class size: maximum 14
