Expansion Project
Construction on the Expansion Project is progressing according to the plans and is on schedule. Although the deadline for completion has been extended to October 31, 2011, the contractor is maintaining the original schedule and hopes that the project will be substantially complete by March 31, 2011. At the time of writing of this report the structural steel was up and the work on the steel decking was in progress. By the time you receive this News Letter the building will be enclosed, with temporary heat on and ready for interior work. Despite the project being behind schedule due to delay in awarding the contract, much of the credit goes to Thomas Design Builders Ltd for putting the project back on track. Due to their excellent planning and engaging knowledgeable and hard working trades, we will see the project completed on schedule.
Programs and Centre Operations During Construction
Despite the major construction project at the site, the operations of the community centre are continuing normally. Basketball and youth indoor soccer are being played off site and are the least affected by the construction. Participants of indoor programs like Karate, Kick Boxing, Yoga, Pilates and Seniors’ Bridge, no doubt, are experiencing some inconvenience.
Three noticeable causes for the inconvenience are the closure of the front entrance, access to the building from the rear and reduced parking. The access to the building through the sanded, snowy and icy path tends to add an extra dimension to the inconvenience by making the floors difficult to keep clean and dry. With the operation of the skating rinks, the latter has become more problem some due to increased traffic from in and out of the building.
Every effort is being made to keep the facility operating under safe, and clean conditions. Due to the prevailing circumstances, however, it is extremely difficult if not impossible to keep the floors clean and dry. While we appreciate your patience and understanding, you can assist us in this respect by making sure that your shoes or skates are clean before entering the building or even mopping the floor off the sand. Furthermore please exercise extreme caution as alternate access path and the wet floors can be slippery and dangerous.
