What? Music for babies (birth-16 months) and toddlers (16 months-3 years).

Come enjoy lots of singing, dancing, rocking, bouncing,
playing of sticks, bells, glockenspiel, drums, scarves,
and many other fun things!

When? Mondays 10:00-10:30 (babies) 10:45-11:15 (toddlers)
April 5-June 14 (10 weeks with a holiday in May)

Where? Lindenwoods Community Center

How much? $6.50 per class ($65.00 for the 10 weeks)

Soccer - mini soccer for children ages 4 thru 8

Dear Parents,

Registration and payment will be done online this season !!

The link to the online registration will be ready about mid March www.lindenwoods.cc

Payment will be done thru TelPay so please set-up an account now if you do not have one already. Go to www.telpay.ca and follow the instructions. It takes a few days to activate an account.

The mini soccer season starts May 3 and ends June 24. There will be one massive "jamboree" windup Monday June 28th. Details will follow once the season is under way.

There will be 4 age categories: 4 / 5 year olds; 6 year olds; 7 year olds and 8 year olds. The registration fee is $45 per child. Shin pads are recommended. Jerseys will be provided.

The age cutoffs are the same as for school i.e. if the child turns 4 prior to Dec 31 of this year, they are eligible to play.

Age 4/5 teams and 6 teams will play Mon and Wed eve. The 7 and 8 year olds will play Tue and Thur. All games are played in Linden Woods. Games run from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.

Spring Youth Basketball Registration

Venue: Linden Woods Community Centre

Date: Monday, March 15th & Thursday, March 18th

Time: 6:30 - 8:00pm

Fee: $120 plus a $25 jersey deposit (postdated June 30, 2010)

Please bring your Manitoba health card.

The spring league is open to youth ages 8-18 (ages based on December 31, 2010).

Games begin April 17-18 and end June 19-20. Teams ages 11 and under will play on Saturdays. Teams ages 12 and up will play on Sundays. Game times and locations will vary. Practices will be held during the week.

We are always in need of coaches! Please let us know if you are interested.

President's Comments on Navy League Cadets Program

Recently a representative from the Navy League of Canada made a presentation to the Board of Directors of the Linden Woods Community Centre Inc. and asked the board to sponsor a Navy League Cadet Program either alone or in cooperation with other community centers in North Fort Garry Area. The presentation outlined various aspects of Navy League Cadet Programe and explained the important role the program can play in the development of the young people of the community.

One of the objectives of the Community Centre is to plan and initiate or conduct a variety of recreational and leisure activities suited to the needs and requirements of the residents of the designated area. Due to limited indoor space and lack of financial resources to hire permanent staff, the volunteer board of directors is forced to offer only a few programs. In an effort to achieve the objective of offering a variety of programs within the available resources, the community centre is always looking for programs feasible within the available resources. Selected programs may be conducted by the community center itself or by another organization under the sponsorship of the community centre.

The Navy League Cadet program, in the opinion of the members of the board, falls within the scope of objectives of the community center as well as it is feasible within the available resources. Furthermore it offers new and different opportunity to the young people of the area, which is not duplicated by any of the programs being offered by the community center.

According to the presentation the Navy League Cadet program was started in 1948 and has since introduced many young Canadians to nautical life. The program is open to both boys and girls between the ages of 9 year to 13 years. The program is comprehensive. The cadets get to do a lot of fun, interesting activities in an environment with emphases on teamwork. The overall program fosters the development of leadership skills, good citizenship and physical fitness. Some activities the cadets enjoy may include: band, camping, sailing, community tours, parades, sports and others all with fun.

There is no cost to join the program and the participants get the uniforms free of charge. The program is community based and has no direct connection with the Armed Forces. Cadets are not members of Canadian Forces and are free to leave the program at any time.

In view of the many positive aspects of the program, the members of the community center board are willing to sponsor the Navy League Cadets Corps in north Fort Garry area. To accomplish this we need four to six volunteers to establish a local branch. To volunteer, there are no pre-requisites. You will be an ideal volunteer if you are community minded and like to work with youth.

Linden Woods Winter Carnival

Linden Woods Winter Carnival will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2010 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Linden Woods Community Centre. The winter carnival will be a day full of fun family activities including exhibition hockey games, family skating, a silent auction, and winter games of skill and chance for all ages. Food and beverages will be available. Bring the family and come join us for a fun day!

After many years we've managed to perform a significant upgrade to our community website. We've not only changed hosting services, but we've also changed how the site operates, increased performance and reliability and added quite a few new features that we're sure you'll enjoy.

The site now operates as a blog. This means you'll see a continuous stream of news announcements, with the most recent announcements at the top of the page. Just visit the site to see the latest! Scroll down to see previous announcements.
Easy to find articles. Being a blog doesn't mean it's hard to find older announcements, because we've also added several great ways to find articles within the site. You can now search by keyword, title, category and tag.
Easier Contact. We've also added several ways to make contact with us, including telephone and street address, form entry for contacting the editor and webmaster, and an enquiry form that goes directly to the LWCC President.
Dedicated Pages. You'll also find several pages dedicated to commonly sought-after information, such as the history of the LWCC, who's on its board, our community, etc. There's even a repository of back issues to our printed newsletter, Linden Words.
Subscription Options. Tech-savvy visitors might consider subscribing to our RSS feed to bring LWCC content directly into your feed reader.
Commenting. A dramatic new feature will allow you to communicate with us electronically. All posts have the ability to accept your comments. Simply hit the "Post a Comment" link at the bottom of any article to submit your feedback.

If You Build It, They Will Come: Volunteers Needed!

They will come in groups, in pairs, alone – people of all ages - to play basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, Bridge, karate, yoga, music programs….. They will come toting basketballs, sticks, running shoes, water bottles….they will come. But only if there is somewhere to go…..

We have a Field and we have a dream! Our dream is to have a full sized gymnasium in our community, but it can only come true with COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.

We cannot do it without you. We need volunteers to canvass door-to-door in the near future.
