Capital Campaign Donor Recognition Update

[Latest update]
Once again, the residents of Linden Woods and local businesses have come through, generously supporting a local community project. Your support is very much appreciated by the Board of the Linden Woods Community Centre, the gym expansion project committee, and undoubtedly will also be appreciated by every user of this wonderful new facility for many years to come. Thank you.

Every donor of $100 or more will be recognized on the Wall of Honour in the new vestibule. This is a preliminary list of donors by category. If you made a donation of at least $100, please check the lists to make sure that your name or other requested recognition has been spelled correctly and is in the appropriate category. Requests for changes or corrections should be directed to Julie Bubnick at 488-1550 or jbubnick@shaw.ca.

It is not too late to make a donation or top up an earlier donation to add your name to the list that will be on the wall. To do so, either contact Julie Bubnick or mail your donation to Linden Woods Community Foundation, 414 Lindenwood Dr. W., Winnipeg MB R3P 2K5.

Linden Woods Gym Photo Update

The LWCC Board recently toured the new facility, which is still under construction. Here's what they saw. Above they're entering the new hallway between the original structure and the expansion. This area will become the main entrance and include benches for those awaiting rides. (click the images for larger views).

It's not apparent from the outside, but inside the gymnasium you'll quickly realize how truly gigantic it is. Evidently our gym will be one of the largest in the city! When the bleachers are installed there will be seating for more than 170 people in the stands during games, and even more for other types of events. The gym's walls are now in their final color, a brilliant yellow.

Not only is the gym large in area, but it's also very tall. Here we see new club president Greg Steidl peering up at the distant ceiling near the new kitchen area. The kitchen's cabinets are now installed, but its appliances are still in progress. Anyone who visits the gym marvels at its amazing size.

Basketball fans will be pleased to know that the special hardwood floor has arrived and is awaiting installation. Here's the photographic evidence.

While the gym is certainly not yet completed, LWCC is starting to receive booking requests for it, demonstrating the future popularity of our new gym.

Gym Plans Available For Viewing

Last night's open house at the Community Centre was a success; many residents dropped by to view architectural sketches of the new gymnasium addition and to ask the on-hand architects questions regarding the design. In the image above, Cindy examines one of the many large-format posters showing views of the new gym.

The posters have not been taken down yet and are still on the walls of the Community Centre building at 414 Lindenwood Drive West for public viewing. If you're wondering what the site will look like, or what's going to be inside the building, feel free to drop by and take a look.

President's Comments: Community Centre Expansion

Recently the Linden Woods Community Centre Board applied for funding for expansion of Linden Woods Community Centre. The need for expansion has been felt for some time. The existing facility was built in the early 90’s. The community has experienced significant growth over the years and the amount of recreation space has not kept pace.

LWCC Expansion Concepts

At our recent and very successful open house the idea of a gymnasium addition to our club was discussed in detail with visitors. Appearing at the open house were several new and dramatic concept views of the proposed facility. These all appear courtesy of Dean Syverson of Syverson Monteyne Architecture, who produced them for our club.
