Gym Opening Set for Oct 15th

You've seen it grow from an idea, to a proposal, to a hole in the ground, to a building skeleton and finally a completed building. Now you can finally see the inside of our glorious new community gymnasium! The Grand Opening Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, October 15th from 11AM to 2PM.

You'll be able to check out the new gym in person - but that's not all. There's a new reception hall, office, washrooms and an incredible kitchen. It's our new Community Centre!

To get you excited we've managed to sneak a few secret photos of the hidden interior for you to see. (click picture for larger view)

You'll enter through the brand new reception hall, which eventually will hold our celebratory mementos and sponsorship recognitions.

When you enter the Gym itself, you'll be astonished - it's so shiny!

The kitchen is fully equipped with ovens, refrigerators and other equipment suitable for almost any type of event.

Basketball fans and players will drool over the incredible floor and six nets.

You'll be amazed by the effect provided by the new south-facing corner windows.

Bleachers have been installed for a large number of spectators at any event.

There's even a hidden Green Room!

More Gym Pictures!

During a brief visit today some pictures were taken of our new gymnasium. It's clearly still under construction, but readers who might frequently see the outside of the building may appreciate a peek inside. The view above is facing west, where the massive scale of the building becomes evident. The ceiling is some 34 feet from the floor, hiding the fact that that buildings floor dimensions are also very large. (click images for much larger views)

You may have noticed a slim corner window on the gym. There are two such windows, one on the south east corner and the other on the south west corner. These are a unique feature rarely found on a gym; they should bring in some light to the activities and give the gym a special character.

The gym includes a rather large kitchen area. Currently under construction, the kitchen will include the appropriate equipment for a facility of this size.

This is a view of the hallway between the new gym and the original portion of the club. The new main entrance will be about half-way down this hall on the right.

This is a view of the new office area, where visitors will be received on their way to the gym on the left behind gym project manager Jennifer.

Inside Our New Gym

Thanks to Jennifer Zyla we have now obtained secret images of the hidden interior of the new gym currently under construction at the community centre. The first image is looking to the west, showing the huge size of the new facility. (click for larger view)

The second image is looking more or less northwest at what is the wall of the gym separating the play area from the kitchen and washrooms.

Gym Floor Plan Available

As people pass by our Gymnasium construction site, they might wonder what it's going to look like inside. To answer your questions, we're posting the latest version of the floor plan here for all to see. It's not the entire blueprint, which would be too difficult to read, but an excerpt containing the floor area of the new construction as well as a portion of the existing floor plan for reference. Click on the image at left for larger view.

Construction Site Safety

Please exercise caution when around the community centre as it is now a construction site.

The actual construction area will be locked when the workers are not on site.

Access to the existing community centre is from the single door at the back of the building near the garage door.
Throughout the winter, the pathway to the back entrance will be kept clear of snow, well salted and well lit so it will be safe for everyone - but please use caution anyway.

Please make sure you have control of children in your care when in the area.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me to discuss.

Thank you!

Gym Fundraising Update

We're very pleased to announce that our fundraising program has now surpassed $100,000 towards the construction of our new gymnasium. Thanks to a truly spectacular donation of $10,000 dollars (yes, that's right -  Ten Thousand Dollars!) from Shawn and Debbie Bergen, our total is now an amazing $101,788.10.

Every dollar counts toward making our gym a first-class facility. Our special thanks to Shawn and Debbie and everyone else who have donated to our cause. If you'd like to join the many who have donated so far, just click the link on the right side of this page to contribute online.

Gym Fundraisers Coming Your Way!

During the month of June and perhaps beyond, volunteer canvassers will be coming door to door in our neighborhood seeking donations in support of our new Gymnasium addition.

Yes, the Gym project is mostly funded, as you may have read before - but it's not completely funded. We still require $250,000 to meet our plan. So far we've raised approximately $20,000 towards that goal, and we have more to do. The gym is built only once, so we want to make certain it includes all the necessary features for our community for many years to come.

If you have a visit from one of our canvassers (easily recognizable by their badge, similar to the image above), please consider giving them a donation. They're tax free and you'll see benefits to the community as soon as it opens next year. As well donators will be recognized by a permanent display inside the gym. If you own a business, please consider making a donation in its name.

Finally, we're seeking addiitonal canvassers who believe in the community and want to make a difference. If you have time and interest, please contact LWCC President Nazir Ahmed at 489-1780.

Gym Plans Available For Viewing

Last night's open house at the Community Centre was a success; many residents dropped by to view architectural sketches of the new gymnasium addition and to ask the on-hand architects questions regarding the design. In the image above, Cindy examines one of the many large-format posters showing views of the new gym.

The posters have not been taken down yet and are still on the walls of the Community Centre building at 414 Lindenwood Drive West for public viewing. If you're wondering what the site will look like, or what's going to be inside the building, feel free to drop by and take a look.
